EGU General Assembly 2026

3–8 May 2026, Vienna, Austria

Several members of the TOGETHER consortium attended the annual European Geosciences Union (EGU) in Vienna 04-08 May. Nicole van Maanen, Marleen de Ruiter and Philip Ward (VU Amsterdam) together with Chris White (University of Strathclyde) joined ~20,000 scientists and practitioners at the annual EGU conference to share latest scientific insights and developments.

The TOGETHER project members participated in a cross-EU project splinter meeting that brought together representatives from several related multi-hazard and muti-risk projects and initiatives from across Europe to discuss synergies and explore future collaborative opportunities together. During the meeting, the TOGETHER team presented the project’s vision for an interoperable, web-based toolkit for coordinated disaster risk management across sectors and governance levels.

The consortium invited other projects and initiatives to contribute relevant tools, protocols, governance frameworks, coordination systems, and stakeholder engagement approaches that could be integrated into or aligned with the TOGETHER framework and toolkit. The discussions highlighted the strong potential for collaboration and knowledge exchange across the growing European multi-risk community.

Toolkit workshop (architecture and functionality)

30 April 2026, Online

The TOGETHER project organised an online workshop dedicated to the conceptual architecture and functionality of the TOGETHER Toolkit, bringing together consortium partners to discuss how the platform can support coordinated disaster risk management and resilience planning.

The workshop introduced the Toolkit as an integrated system designed to collect and connect hazard-related data from multiple sources such as climate services, local authorities, EU projects, and real-time monitoring systems, and transform them into interoperable information that can support decision-making across organisations and sectors. A key focus of the discussions was the role of the Toolkit’s intelligent AI-supported Multi-Tool System, which is designed to help users analyse risks, access relevant governance procedures, and receive transparent and evidence-based recommendations for disaster preparedness and response. Participants explored how the Toolkit could support collaboration between emergency services, municipalities, civil protection authorities, researchers, NGOs, and communities through a shared platform.

The workshop also presented the Oslo use case as an example scenario, demonstrating how the Toolkit could help assess cascading risks related to flooding and quick-clay landslides, support coordination between responders, and improve planning through shared data and interoperable tools. Extensive discussions focused on real-time data integration, interoperability, transparency of AI-generated outputs, dashboard usability, social resilience considerations, and the practical needs of end users and practitioners.

The session provided valuable feedback for the next development phase of the TOGETHER Toolkit and reinforced the project’s objective of creating a collaborative, user-oriented, and evidence-based framework for disaster risk management across Europe.

EENA Conference 2026
